After several weeks of sketching these musicians as they rehearsed and performed a collection of Gershwin tunes, I composed this painting as a 'group portrait.'
The ensemble performed the program in my studio with about 50 guests in attendance. At intermission, the painting was unveiled. It was a lot of work, but great fun for all of us; exactly the collaboration among artists that I had imagined.
The painting was purchased by art dealer, David Roe, and shipped to him in London, England in early summer, 2013. It's oil on canvas, measuring 48 x 72."
